How a distributed IX improves interconnectivity

Internet exchanges have grown far beyond a single, standalone switch across which ISPs could exchange traffic. Modern Internet Exchange (IX) infrastructure enables many  types of networks to connect from multiple points of presence and seamlessly exchange traffic. Today, Content Delivery Networks, ISPs, hosting providers, cloud operators and Enterprise networks all benefit from exchanging traffic at an IX.

This blogpost will take a look at the history of distributed IX infrastructure in the Nordics, the technology that makes it possible and the benefits it offers network operators.
