Internet in Sweden continues to work well

Current indications show infrastructure in Sweden well placed to handle changing traffic patterns

As a provider of critical infrastructure services, Netnod currently has no indications of any issues with the core of the Internet in Sweden. All our services are functioning well and we are prepared to upgrade the customers that see the need for more capacity. Like everyone else, we see some issues with certain websites that have been overloaded. But we see no indication that those specific incidents are related to issues with the functioning of the Internet as a whole in Sweden.

We have received some questions related to the traffic graphs we have on our website and the spike in traffic seen on 10 March 2020. Those graphs indicate the traffic Netnod carries between our customers. Individual spikes like that happen when, for example, new versions of operating systems or popular games are released. For changes in behaviour (for example, an increase in remote working, or increased video conferencing), one has to look at longer-term trends of at least a week.

In the event that traffic continues to increase, we have a simple upgrade solution in place for our IX customers. To ensure that their services run smoothly and can handle any demand for increased capacity, all Netnod IX customers can now request a 3 month upgrade at no additional cost.

It is our view that the coordination activities of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) function well. Netnod, like other providers of communication services in Sweden, continue to actively participate in these activities.
